Land Rover has added a new mild-hybrid Ingenium powertrain to its line-up. The six-cylinder gasoline unit was designed and engineered in-house and will be manufactured at the brand’s £1b (US$1.3bn) Engine Manufacturing Center (EMC) in Wolverhampton, UK.
The 3-liter I6 engine – which will debut on the 2019 Range Rover Sport – is available in 355hp and 395hp outputs, badged P360 and P400 respectively. The P360 will generate up to 495Nm of torque, while the P400 peaks at 550Nm.
The new engine features an electric supercharger, which supplements a twin scroll turbocharger, working in conjunction with continuous variable valve lift. The integrated e-supercharger, a first for Jaguar Land Rover, is able to spool fully in just 0.5 seconds at up to 120,000rpm via a direct connection with the throttle.
In addition, Land Rover’s new mild-hybrid system harvests energy through regenerative braking, storing it in a 48V battery.
