Tier 1 supplier Cummins has broadened its power portfolio with the development of an all-new electrified powertrain. Configurable for use in either BEV or REEV layout, the design is ideally suited for integration into city, intercity and airport buses.
Thanks to optimal subsystem management, the powertrain is able to maintain battery state-of-charge for longer as well as extend zero-emissions range. The enhanced energy storage is achieved thanks to a high-density battery enclosure, which is suitable for both on-roof and chassis integration into existing bus designs.
The standard battery enclosure provides 70kWh storage capability, and with eight units integrated into the BEV bus, the powertrain will produce 560kWh. This means a zero-emissions range of up to 360km. An integral plug-in connection means fast-recharge capability as well as opportunity for on-route charging, meaning operational flexibility.
Fitted with three battery units, the REEV system will produce 210kWh and a zero-emissions range of up to 135km, and when the range is out, the system brings a 160ps engine generator online to recharge the batteries and continue ultra-low emissions capability.
