The technology company Continental has announced it is supplying FCA with its liquid-cooled 48V Eco Drive technology to support the eTorque system in the new Jeep Wrangler.
Andreas Wolf, CEO of Continental Powertrain, said, “Electrification is a key component of future mobility. Combustion engine and electrification are complementary partners with regards to efficiency and with regards to emissions.”
Continental’s compact 48V Eco Drive with integrated power electronics will provide up to 120Nm of torque, which is delivered to the crank via the engine’s front-end accessory drive. The 14.3kg unit also helps maximize regenerative braking and offers impressive 4.1 kW/L in power density.
Continental’s 48V Eco Drive is based on a modular concept, which enables Continental to scale the technology for multiple vehicle classes.
