Key figures from industry, academia and media have gathered to discuss carbon-neutral drive systems ahead of the 46th International Vienna Motor Symposium, which will take place on May 14-16, 2025.
Rudolf J Melzer, founder of the International Forum for Business Communication (IFWK), arranged the high-level forum, inviting top managers from the vehicle industry, developers and practical users to explore the non-fossil energy sources that will power the vehicles of tomorrow. Prof. Bernhard Geringer, chair of the symposium’s organizing committee, said, “In order to get a grip on the anthropogenic increase in greenhouse gases and to be able to phase out fossil fuels, we need not one but all technically possible solutions to drive forward de-fossilization and make mobility carbon neutral as quickly as possible.” The event, held at the Austrian Journalists Club (ÖJC), centered on the real-world viability of carbon-neutral drive technologies.
Geringer, who has experimented with biofuels as a professor at the Vienna University of Technology since the beginning of 2002, emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach to sustainable mobility. He made it clear that Europe had completely underestimated the topic of lithium-ion battery technology and thus the breakthrough of electric drives. He also highlighted that reliable regulations are urgently needed in Europe.
This year’s International Vienna Motor Symposium will examine relevant energy sources, including all areas of mobility from cars and aviation to motorsports, commercial vehicles, shipping and two-wheelers.
