UK-based car manufacturer Morgan has released a revolutionized new model of a previous vehicle, the Plus Four.

Nestled into the new architecture of the Plus Four is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from BMW after the brands’ long-standing relationship together. It is the first time a turbocharged four-cylinder has featured in one of Morgan’s cars, and provides both the automatic and manual versions with 255ps. The automatic has a dry weight of 1,009kg (2,224 lb), and the manual variant 1,013kg (2,233 lb), both with torque figures of 400Nm and 350Nm respectively. Both models can reach a top speed of 240km/h (150mph).

Another first for Morgan is the introduction of an automatic 8-speed transmission from factory, featuring paddle shift and a sport mode. Shift patterns and response times are increased to produce a more dynamic driving experience. The manual 6-speed version is said to provide a perfectly weighted movement and carefully chosen ratios allowing a 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds, and 4.8 seconds for the automatic.

Although power figures and torque levels have increased by 65% when compared with already available Plus 4s, the automatic vehicle can achieve a fuel economy of 7.0 l/100km (40mpg), and CO2  is also reduced to 159g/km. Manual variants manage 7.3 l/100km (39mpg) and 165g/km.

Based on the company’s new bonded aluminum CX-Generation chassis, the new Plus Four is made from 97% new componentry and technology.

CEO of the brand, Steve Morris, said, “The all-new Plus Four features industry-leading technology thanks to our CX-Generation platform and BMW powertrain. The Morgan represents a four-year development program, carried out by our world-class design and engineering team.”
