Vauxhall-Opel has stepped up plans to electrify its vehicle line-up. As part of the OEM’s Pace turnaround plan, the Corsa supermini will have an all-electric variant by 2020 and the entire passenger car portfolio will have an electric option by 2024.

The new Corsa EV, which will be produced in Zaragoza, Spain, is expected to rival small battery electric cars such as the Renault Zoe. Production starts in 2019.

Alongside the new supermini, the auto maker will offer BEV and PHEV versions alongside its traditional IC engine models. By 2020, Opel will have four electrified car lines, including a plug-in hybrid version of the Grandland X SUV.

In November 2017 it was announced that the OEM would be accelerating integration with PSA Peugeot-Citroen-DS; this will see Vauxhall-Opel develop future vehicles on the PSA small and large modular platforms.

“This is an important step forward for the Zaragoza plant and marks the beginning of a new era,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller. “This result is significant and shows the mutual trust and confidence of all involved stakeholders. Zaragoza will continue to play an important role in the industrial footprint of Groupe PSA.”
