Mitsubishi debuts e-Evolution concept

Japanese OEM Mitsubishi has revealed a potential all-electric successor to the Evo, the e-Evolution, this week at the Tokyo Motor Show. The SUV prototype features high-performance electric motors and four-wheel-drive technology.

“We aim to provide vehicles that fulfill our customers’ desires through outstanding design, combined with the power, authenticity and carefully-considered functionality MMC is known for,” said Tsunehiro Kunimoto, head of global design at Mitsubishi.

Fed by a high-capacity battery system, the e-Evolution aims to deliver the smooth, torque-rich responsiveness thanks to a mid-ship under-floor drive battery, enabling a low center of gravity.

Developed with a triple motor 4WD system, a single motor is employed to drive the front wheels and a new dual-motor Active Yaw Control (AYC) system couples two rear motors through an electronically controlled torque-vectoring unit. All of this is integrated into Mitsubishi’s unique Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamic control system to improve cornering and traction performance.

As a glimpse into the industry’s future, the Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept features an AIsystem, allowing the EV to use sensors to instantly read changes in road and traffic conditions, as well as driver intent, to improve the driving experience.
