Mercedes-Benz adds mild hybrid gasoline and diesel powertrains to E-Class and CLS ranges

Mercedes-Benz has continued the push toward electrification with the addition of new mild hybrid electric architectures to its E-Class and CLS ranges.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS350 is equipped with an all-new four-cylinder petrol engine capable of producing 299ps and 400Nm of torque. It features a belt-driven 48V starter-generator, which generates a further 14ps and 150Nm. The CLS350 will emit 162g/km of CO2, delivers up to 5.9 l/100km, and can travel from 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds.

The new E450 uses an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine paired with Mercedes-Benz’s innovative EQ Boost technology. With an output of 367ps and 500Nm of torque delivered from the engine, EQ Boost offers an additional 22ps and 250Nm. The EQ Boost system uses a 48V in-line starter-generator, which promises to enhance performance and refinement, while also reducing fuel consumption.

The E450 can deliver up to 7.3 l/100km on the combined cycle and emits 202g/km of CO2. The coupé variant can travel from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, while the Cabriolet takes 5.8 seconds.

Replacing the E350 d, the E400 d features a 3.0-liter in-line diesel engine – code-named OM656 – which generates 340ps and 700Nm of torque. The coupé will hit 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.
