Addionics has announced new technology to extend usable range, enable faster charging and improve overall battery performance in cold-weather conditions.
Low temperatures can reduce the usable energy available from EV batteries while increasing energy consumption for cabin and battery heating. In severe winter conditions, this can reduce an EV’s range by up to an estimated 40%, while electric trucks may face reduced power and payload or route limitations.
Addionics’ Smart 3D Porous Current Collectors alter the battery’s internal transportation architecture, allowing electrolyte and lithium ions to move through the current collector. This creates additional pathways through the electrode, reducing transportation distances and improving active-material accessibility to help the battery retain performance at lower temperatures.
