Eaton Cummins launches upgraded 12-speed automated transmission

Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies has announced that it will launch an updated version of its Endurant 12-speed automated transmission for the Chinese market. The latest version has retarder capability and a power take-off (PTO) option.

“Demand for automated transmissions in the commercial vehicle market is growing, and Endurant provides us with a great opportunity to satisfy customer demand and play a critical role in helping Chinese truck makers meet upcoming emission regulations,” said Charles Masters, general manager, Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies.

The Endurant automated transmission has been designed to be lightweight and efficient, while ensuring that it is 2,650Nm-capable. Higher torque capability is planned for subsequent versions in the future.

Endurant is equipped with a number of technologies developed to improve operator experience, such as predictive shifting; a transmission fluid pressure sensor that notifies drivers of low oil levels; and a rear mount PTO opening for auxiliary components.

The system also allows oil volume requirements between 30% and 50% below the competition and an oil change interval that is 25-90% longer. In addition, Eaton Cummins has designed the retarder to assist with vehicle deceleration in mountainous areas.
