Japanese OEM Honda’s Ohio engine plant this week produced its 25 millionth unit since opening the US facility in 1985. The site has recently received a US$47m investment for the introduction of the 2018 Accord engine line-up. The newly added motors include the direct-injected VTEC turbo four-cylinder and the 2.0 i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine.
The Anna Engine Plant, which has seen a total investment of US$2.7bn, has four assembly lines and two casting operations producing engines and components for 14 Honda and Acura products.
The 25 millionth motor, which was produced on line four, was a 1.5-liter turbo that will be installed in an all-new 2018 Accord at the Marysville Auto Plant. The landmark was reached 32 years after the site opened and at current production rate – 1.18 million engines annually – it will take just 21 years to reach 50 million.
“Building 25 million engines is not just a major production milestone, but symbolic of the passion and commitment invested by our associates, past and present, to satisfy 25 million customers,” said Paul Dentinger, plant manager at the Anna Engine Plant.
