Mazda, Toyota and Denso have announced the establishment of a joint venture for the development of basic structural EV technologies. To ensure the efficient implementation of projects, the three companies will establish a new company consisting of existing engineers.
As policies regarding emissions become more stringent, OEMs are turning to EV technology. The partnership deal will allow for the development of a range of electric powertrains for a range of vehicle segments – from mini-vehicles to passenger vehicles – and aims to innovate the development process by combining the strengths of each company.
With EVs yet to find widespread market acceptance, Mazda, Denso and Toyota’s decision to develop structural technologies capable of covering a wide variety of segments, ensures flexible and rapid response to market trends.
Through this joint technological development project, the three companies will verify component installation, research into the characteristics of optimum EV performance, as well as examine the optimum concept for each car classification.
The joint development group, which will operate under the name EV CA Spirit Co., will share an equal amount of development resources and is structured to be open to the participation of other auto makers and suppliers.
