Volkswagen has announced that its five-seat fastback, the Arteon, is gaining a new a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged TSI gasoline unit developing 272ps from 5,100rpm to 6,500rpm.
The Arteon’s newest powertrain promises to deliver 272ps and 350Nm of torque, allowing for acceleration to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 250km/h (155mph). The unit is bolted to a DSG automatic gearbox as standard.
Despite an increase in power, the 272ps engine will generate 160g/km CO₂ and return 5.8 l/100km on the combined cycle.
First launched in September 2017, the Arteon is based on the flexible Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, which allows for a broad range of powertrains and configurations.
Volkswagen UK’s product manager for the Arteon, Joe Laurence, said, “The addition of a 272ps engine to the Arteon range further expands customer choice, with efficient, lower-powered engines at one end of the line-up, and performance-oriented petrol and diesel units at the other.
