Škoda has unveiled its new Superb iV, the OEM’s first production model to be fitted with plug-in hybrid drive. Equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine and an electric motor, the drive system promises to deliver a combined power output of 218ps. The all-electric range is 55km on the WLTP cycle; and up to 850km can be covered when combined with the turbocharged gasoline engine.
A 85kW electric motor enables the car to be driven in pure mode, as well as in support of the 1.4 TSI, which outputs 156ps. In Sport mode, drivers have access to the maximum power output of 218ps and 400 Nm of torque. The MHEV system is paired to a 6‑speed DSG.
The lithium-ion high-voltage battery is positioned in the chassis floor in front of the rear axle, while the gasoline tank can hold 50-liters.
The battery can be charged overnight using a standard plug socket or in 3 hours 30 minutes using a wall box with a charging output of 3.6kW. The Superb iV is also able to recharge or maintain the level of charge in the battery while driving, either via its gasoline engine or through regenerative braking.
