Jeep has revealed its revamped 2018 Wrangler at the Los Angeles Auto Show, including an all-new engine line-up. The American auto maker has added a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 and a completely new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, while the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine has been given an upgrade.

Mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with eTorque technology will develop 273ps and 295 lb-ft. of torque. It will also improve fuel economy and launch performance, thanks to an all-new eTorque system, which includes electric power assist, extended fuel shut-off, transmission shift management, intelligent battery charging and regenerative braking.

Fitted with a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger with an electronically actuated wastegate, the 2.0-liter motor enables responsiveness and performance, even over difficult terrain. The engine’s fuel pump supplies the engine’s 2,900psi high-pressure common-rail injection system. These high pressures produce better fuel atomization and allow for more precise fuel delivery than port fuel-injection systems; this means both performance and efficiency is improved.

The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine will deliver 285ps and 260 lb-ft of torque and is engineered to provide a broad torque band with a focus on low-end torque. An all-new 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all Wrangler models equipped with the V6, while the 8-speed automatic transmission is optional.

Available from 2019, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine is rated at 260ps and 442 lb-ft of torque. It is equipped with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, which has been redesigned to handle the increased torque output.

Thanks to new low-friction bearing turbocharger technology, the diesel unit is designed for low-end and transient performance. Upgraded low-friction pistons improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, while the enhanced combustion system includes a new injector nozzle, piston bowl and glow plug with integrated combustion pressure sensor to optimize combustion.
