SEAT unveils new-generation Leon

SEAT has expanded its line-up of electrified vehicles with the new Leon. The hatchback will be equipped with a wide range of powertrains, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.

The Leon’s gasoline engines are all direct-injection, turbocharged units and provide power outputs between 110ps and 190ps. For the first time, the Leon can be equipped with a 1-liter three-cylinder 110ps TSI engine and six-speed manual.

Also available is a 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder that will generate either 130ps or 150ps. Both engines use a Miller-cycle combustion process, a variable geometry turbocharger and Active Cylinder Management. A 190ps 2-liter TSI unit is also available. This is linked to the brand’s dual-clutch seven-speed DSG transmission.

SEAT’s Leon will also benefit from two diesel powertrain options, both 2-liter TDI units. The diesel motor, which will be offered in either 115ps or 150ps variant, introduces a new Selective Catalytic Reduction system that includes dual AdBlue injectors to reduce NOx emissions.

The hatchback can also be specified with mild hybrid technology. The eTSI system, which is paired with the 110ps 1-liter and the 150ps 1.5-liter gasoline units, mates a 48V starter-generator and lithium-ion battery to the engine.

SEAT’s plug-in hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine with an electric motor, a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack and six-speed DSG transmission to produce 204ps peak power.

The PHEV Leon can be fully charged from 0% in less than 3.5 hours and enables an electric-only driving range of 60km.
