FEV hosts advanced diesel powertrain solutions conference

Engineering services provider FEV has hosted the Diesel Powertrains 3.0 international conference for the fourth year in a row. Held in Solihull, UK, this year was the first to take place outside of Germany.

At the specialist event renowned speakers from OEMs and the supplier industry, along with research and development companies, offered insights into the technological innovations for the next generations of clean and holistically sustainable diesel powertrains.

With regulations dictating the industry at present, focus was on the optimization of diesel engines with the goal of zero pollutant emissions in real operation and potential further reductions in CO₂ emissions.

“Continuous improvement of the diesel engine with respect to its efficiency, fuel consumption and further reductions of pollutant emissions in daily operation are key areas. explained conference leader Thomas Körfer, group vice president for diesel engines at FEV.

“We need to ensure the targets set by legislators for improving local air quality and lowering the CO₂ emissions caused by transportation are met. The target values for emissions and consumption are constantly changing all over the world.

“Add to that the new testing conditions and an unjustifiable shift in the image of diesel engines among the public, and you have developers faced with growing challenges.”

With more than 30 lectures at Diesel Powertrains 3.0, the conference offered insights into how and with what means the modern diesel engine can remain an attractive and affordable component in the mix of state-of-the-art powertrain units under the changing regulatory conditions.
