Audi has detailed plans to enable every third customer to choose an e-model by the middle of the next decade. To achieve this, the OEM will introduce an electrified variant in each model series by 2025.
The German auto maker is aiming to sell 800,000 electrified vehicles in 2025, explained the OEM’s board of management during its annual general meeting. By then, the car maker intends to offer an electrified variant in each model series. While many other auto makers are initially focusing on mild-hybrid technology – the German OEM has said most of the vehicles introduced will be fully electric, with a smaller proportion as plug-in hybrids.
“Our ambition has always been and will continue to be Vorsprung durch Technik,” said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management at Audi. “Our goal is to revolutionize mobility.
“Also in electric mobility, we want to become the number one among the premium manufacturers – with full suitability for everyday use, no compromises, top quality and driving pleasure for the customer. With our technological excellence, we are utilizing our Vorsprung and lifting electric mobility to the next level.”
The production version of the Audi e-tron prototype is the first result of the Roadmap E initiative, with which the company will electrify its complete portfolio by 2025. This means 20 electrified models will be released in rapid succession until 2025.
In 2019, the Audi e-tron Sportback will be the second fully electric car to be launched, followed by the Audi e-tron GT from Audi Sport in 2020. Audi will also offer an electric model in the premium compact segment in 2020.
With electric mobility, Audi is taking a holistic, resource-conserving approach to production: in Brussels, the Audi e-tron will be the first Audi car to be produced in certified CO₂-neutral high-volume production. All of the company’s production sites fill follow suit by 2030.
