Audi equips A6 Avant with re-engineered PHEV powertrain

German OEM Audi has givenĀ its A6 Avant a redeveloped plug-in hybrid powertrain that is capable of generating up to 51km of electric range. With the brand’s 2-liter TFSI engine and a permanently excited synchronous motor under the hood, the station wagon will generate a total system output of 367ps.

Together with the separating clutch, the electric motor – whichĀ has a peak torque output of 350Nm – is integrated into a 7-speed S tronic transmission, which transfers the drive torque to a quattro drivetrain.

The Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSI e quattro accelerates from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h (155.3mph). In pure electric mode the plug-in hybrid can reach a speed of up to 135km/h (83.9mph).

The PHEV station wagon also comes with intelligent drive management with a predictive operating strategy, giving it the range to enable customers to do most of their daily driving electrically.

In hybrid mode, the predictive operating strategy ensures maximum efficiency and electric driving time.

The intelligent system controls the drivetrain to ensure that the last stage of the journey can be covered in all-electric mode and the battery is charged via the combustion engine only where necessary.

The predictive efficiency assist takes over the planning of a stage of the journey and uses information from navigation systems, as well as online traffic events, the customer’s driving style, and vehicle sensors.

Customers can charge the plug-in hybrid at public charging terminals with an output of up to 7.4kW with a standard mode 3 cable.

The lithium-ion battery can be recharged to 100% in 2.5 hours and Audi’s e-tron charging service provides access to more than 140,000 public charging points in 24 European countries.
