The leading companies in the powertrain industry once again came together for this year’s Engine Expo. Returning to the Stuttgart Messe, the industry’s must-attend event welcomed the leading lights in powertrain design, development, procurement and production for three days of product debuts, innovative technologies and cutting-edge discussion. Engine Expo 2015 welcomed visitors from across the globe, granting attendees an ideal opportunity to meet and network with representatives of the world’s leading companies.

Several exhibitors took the opportunity to introduce state-of-the-art products and new technologies. Unveiled at this year’s Engine Expo was Autocraft’s Old to New Remanufactured Engine Display, which provided an eye-catching visual demonstration of the processes during remanufacturing that turn a failed engine into an as-good-as-new state. Meanwhile, Founderia Casati used its stand to showcase the latest developments in the production of cast-iron and stainless-steel turbine housings, integrated manifolds and exhaust manifolds – including a patented alloy called Super Nire.

A number of exhibitors were particularly impressed with the calibre of attendees at this year’s expo. “There are a lot of people visiting the show who work in development departments. Those are the key people for us to talk to,” said Anders Kolstrup, technical director of Rotrex. “Here you can meet all the engineers and the decision makers. They’re discussing technical details. I definitely think we’ll be back next year.”

“It’s been very positive, lots of interest, lots of interesting questions, and I’m generally very impressed with the interest being shown by people,” agreed Dapo Ogunmuyiwa, chairman and CEO of Ogunmuyiwa Motorentechnik. “I’ve been coming here since the start of the show 15 years ago, so I’ve always been looking forward to the time when I can exhibit on my own – today I’ve been able to achieve that and it’s been very well worth the effort.”

The expo also included the International Engine of the Year Awards ceremony, and a three-day Open Technology Forum – an event that featured prominent speakers from across the industry. “The visitors we are getting are really good contacts to make, especially from the OEM side, and also subcontractors,” said Jari Ponsiluoma, global product manager, Sandvik Materials Technology. “And we had the opportunity to present our Pressurfect technology yesterday morning at the forum. That was really good for us to present Sandvik as a whole, and Pressurfect as a product.”

“It’s been perfect,” added Simone Borio, sales engineer for Fonderia Casati.

“We’ve had a lot of visitors, from yesterday and today. People are prepared, and they are asking us about new projects and so on. Some of them are our customers, so they visit to talk face to face, but in general it has been good for contacts, for new customers. I think we could have good development of our business in the future as a result of this show.”

Visitors to Engine Expo 2015 enjoyed the opportunity to meet leading players from the industry. “I’m visiting to make contacts, and also to find suppliers for our engine components and testing components,” said Damian Gonczarowski, a senior engine designer at Hyundai Motorsport Europe. “It’s a great show. I’ve visited twice before, and I’ll definitely be back.”
