Cupra has unveiled its first exclusive model developed for the brand, a high-performance coupe crossover. The Formentor will be offered with two differing powertrain options – a turbocharged 310PS 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine, or a plug-in hybrid variant featuring a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine paired to an electric motor, capable of delivering a combined output of 245ps.

The 1.4-liter plug-in hybrid model’s electric motor is powered by a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack and has a fully electric range of 50km (31 miles). Both powertrains output 400Nm of torque and are teamed with a dual-clutch 7-speed DSG transmission linked to a shift-by-wire gear selector.

Cupra’s 2.0-liter TSI variant features a four-wheel-drive system, which constantly monitors information from multiple sources including steering angle, yaw and wheel speed. This allows the car to deliver precisely placed power to the correct wheel at any time, enabling setup adaptations to suit different driving scenarios.

CEO of Cupra, Wayne Griffiths, said, “With high-performance powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid, the Formentor will be a big step and will clearly show the potential of the brand.”
