BMW introduces two new 2-liter engines to the Z4

BMW has developed two new four-cylinder units for its 2019 Z4. The output of both the 2-liter turbocharged gasoline units has been increased by 13ps over their predecessors.

Under the hood of the Z4 sDrive30i, the engine will deliver a maximum output of 260ps and peak torque of 400Nm. This means a zero to 100km/h time of 5.4 seconds.

Developed with efficiency and emissions in mind, the 260ps powerplant offers combined fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km to 7.3l/100km and CO₂ emissions of 138g/km.

The lower-powered engine of the two, that features in the Z4 sDrive20i, has a maximum output of 200ps developed between 4,500rpm and 6,500rpm. The roadster takes 6.6 seconds to reach 100km/h. The new sDrive20i engine burns an average of 7.3-7.1l/100km and produces CO2 emissions of 138g/km.

In addition to the 2-liter engines, the Z4 will feature a straight-six unit with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. Standout features include a water-cooled exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, tuned turbo response, and direct injection technology; which now works at increased maximum pressure of 350 bar. Maximum output is 340ps, and peak torque is 500Nm.

All variants of the Z4 come equipped with the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Besides a wider ratio spread, the latest version of the automatic transmission has been modified to offer sportier gear shifts.
