BMW Group has announced that the Hams Hall engine manufacturing plant, near Birmingham, UK, has produced its five millionth engine. Over the last 18 years, the plant has built BMW’s three- and four-cylinder gasoline engines.
“We are delighted to be celebrating our five millionth engine,” said plant director, Bernd Gress. “Our dedicated team works hard to ensure every one of those five million engines has been built to the highest standards of quality and dispatched promptly to one of our vehicle plants, so customers get their cars on time.”
Contributing to the company’s electrified strategy, Hams Hall-built engines are supplied for a number of plug-in hybrid vehicles including the IEOTYA-winning i8.
Over the last six years, BMW has also developed a second assembly facility at the plant. This site is dedicated to higher performance hand-built engines. Key engine components such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads and crankshafts are also machined at this plant for Hams Hall-built engines.
