Volvo has announced it is to introduce a new powertrain to its ’90’ series range of cars. Set to sit below its existing D4 and D5 models, the new D3 will feature a Drive-E four-cylinder diesel engine, coupled to a new six-speed manual transmission.
The D3 engine is already in use in Volvo’s 60 and 40-series cars, and produces 150bhp and 320Nm. Volvo states that the new engine, when in situ in the 90 series and paired with the new six-speed automatic transmission, will deliver fuel economy of 4.3 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions down to 114 g/km. The D3 will also now be available with All-Wheel Drive.
