Toyota has announced that it is to further its research in to hydrogen fuel cell technology and explore future applications for the zero emissions solution it states is suitable for ‘a broad spectrum of vehicle types’.
Due to the scalability of the technology, the automaker is exploring a semi-trailer truck application in a California-based feasibility study. Toyota states that whilst its Mirai will continue to provide a zero emission driving solution for global customers on a personal basis; a heavy-duty truck sized fuel cell vehicle creates a potential zero-emission freight transportation solution for the future.
Additional details on the study, and the continued evolution of Toyota’s vision of a hydrogen society, will be announced in the coming months.
