ThyssenKrupp has plans to invest US$50m in a new facility in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Building work will begin on the company’s fifth plant in the country in early 2016, and following its completion in 2017, the factory will produce cylinder head covers with integrated camshafts for North American auto manufacturers.
The company says that its integrated design of the module permits weight savings of up to 30% compared with alternative setups, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
Dr Karsten Kroos, CEO of the components technology division, ThyssenKrupp, said, “We are benefitting from new orders from the fast-growing auto market in North America, especially in Mexico.
“We plan to continue our profitable growth in the next five years with around US$550m of investment in new plants, and around half is earmarked for projects in Mexico.”
The company already builds a wide variety of components at its other sites in Mexico, including engine and steering components, springs and stabilizers, as well as performing axle module assemblies.
