Kentpar has been producing crank shaft components for almost four decades. At Engine Expo 2016, the company is showcasing its range of components, such as its harmonic balancers, and torsional vibration damper isolators.
Kentpar’s harmonic balance comprises of two elements, which deal with mass and energy dissipation respectively. The ‘mass’ element provides the unit’s ability to resist the acceleration of the vibration, whilst the energy dissipating element absorbs the vibrations fully. Additionally the component helps absorb some of the energy transferred from the piston to the crankshaft. This movement can induce as much as 2° of twist in the crankshaft, which has many follow-on effects on all engine elements that require adequate timing such as valve openings and camshaft timing.
Kentpar’s torsional vibration damper isolator is capable of operating in high combustion pressures and low running speeds, with large moments of inertia. This can cause increased problems with belt drives. With a soft elastomer spring, Kentpar’s components decouple the belt drive from crankshaft vibrations and therefore achieve a longer life for the belt and the ancillary equipment as well as good acoustic characteristics.
