Sevcon has launched a new motor controller using its new GEN5 technology platform.
The company says that its GEN5 on-road controller is a high-voltage, high-power AC motor designed specifically for high-performance on-road electric and hybrid vehicle applications.
The GEN5 motor controller has also been put together from the beginning with the intention of being quick and easy to install in vehicles.
Sevcon Group product manager Stephen Chilton said, “Our technology is designed from the ground up to ensure maximum functional safety in on-road vehicle applications.”
The new controller has been designed to stand up to harsh environmental conditions, thanks to its lightweight metal housing. Sevcon says that the new GEN5 will be available in early 2016, and is currently undergoing early acceptance testing with 12 OEMs.
The UK-based supplier saw success with the fourth generation of its motor controller, which was chosen by Renault for its Twizy EV.
