Opel has revealed a glimpse of its new Ampera-e EV ahead of its full launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The company has not released any concrete details on the new car other than the name and the fact that it uses a flat battery pack mounted underneath the floor in order to free up cabin space.
The Ampera-e is expected to be based heavily on the Chevrolet Bolt, which was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
The Bolt uses a 150kW/361Nm electric motor as propulsion and General Motors claims that range is over 300km, but that has yet to be confirmed in any official testing.
Opel claims that the Ampera-e will be competitively priced and have a “longer range on a full charge than most electric vehicles”.
“Electric vehicles have the potential to make a significant contribution to climate protection and emissions reduction,” says Opel group CEO Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann. “The new Ampera-e will open the road to electric mobility by breaking down the barriers of high price and short driving range.”
