Lamborghini has confirmed production of its SUV, the Urus, and revealed that manufacturing will be undertaken in Italy. The new model, which was first unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in 2012, is expected to go on sale in 2018.
Little is known of the technical specification of the new Lamborghini. The new model looks set to share MLB Evo underpinnings with the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg, but speculation as to what will be powering the vehicle continues to run rampant.
The OEM claims the Urus will beat the CO₂ figures of comparable SUVs thanks to a hybrid powertrain – rumored to produce around 600ps. Various sources have different ideas regarding the nature of the Urus’s IC engine, with the most common theory being that the new model will feature an Audi-built turbocharged 5.2-liter V10 (currently found in the RS Q7) working in conjunction with an electric motor. Lamborghini has confirmed that the Urus will have permanent all-wheel drive.
The OEM plans to produce as many as 3,000 units per year, meaning that the third model in the company’s current line-up will more than double Lambo’s current annual production of approximately 2,500 cars.
