Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to double the size of its Engine Manufacturing Centre (EMC) in Wolverhampton, UK, as part of a US$677m expansion program.
The company says the new investment brings the total money spent on the site, which opened last year, to US$1.5bn.
The EMC is home to the Ingenium range of engines, with more than 50,000 units coming off the production line so far. The latest investment will see the footprint of the site growing to over 200,000m², supplying powerplants to the Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar XF and new F-Pace, among others.
“The Engine Manufacturing Centre is a strategically significant facility for Jaguar Land Rover,” said JLR CEO Ralf Speth. “The decision to expand our operations at the site provides a clear signal of our commitment to meeting customer demand for cleaner and more efficient engines, while developing the skills and capability that Britain needs if it is to remain globally competitive.”
