Testing firm AVL has opened a new technology center near Stuttgart in Germany following 15 months of construction.
The new center features nine test beds for the development and testing of engines, powertrains and vehicles. A modular design leaves potential for 16 more test beds.
AVL says that the new center provides it with the foundation to meet emissions and fuel economy challenges as well as helping to develop electric powertrain solutions.
The German research and development facility contains two all-wheel chassis dynamometers for emission testing and acoustic development, several HiL systems, one acoustic engine test bed, two powertrain test beds and initially a further four engine test beds. Space has also been created for vehicle and engine facilities and office space.
AVL CEO, Helmut List, said, “The testing and engineering center was built to accomplish highly sophisticated engineering tasks and has a flexible design that allows us to respond swiftly to future requirements.
“By opening this center, we have established a further important milestone in the industrial location of Germany.”
The official opening was overseen by Helmut List (top, right) and Jürgen Kessing (top, left), mayor of local town Bietigheim-Bissingen.
