Video: Faraday Future reveals supercar EV concept at CES 2016

New California-based manufacturer Faraday Future has revealed its FFZERO1 concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The car is based on a proprietary platform that will underpin future production models and has come out of a strategic partnership with Letv, a Chinese technology firm with a background in mobiles and cloud computing.

The FFZERO1 is strictly a concept at the moment, but a limited production run could be possible says Faraday. The car is powered by an electric motor at each wheel, producing 972ps and powering the car to a top speed of over 322km/h (200mph).

Faraday’s newly designed Variable Platform Architecture offers flexibility for a number of different drivetrain layouts, including two- or four-wheel drive applications as well as platform-mounted electric motors.

“We all share a common goal to profoundly move the world in better, cleaner and more intelligent ways,” said Nick Sampson, Faraday’s head of R&D and engineering at CES 2016. “We have a very transformative vision. We are embarking on nothing less than a complete rethink on what mobility means. You don’t need to have a 100-year legacy in the automotive industry to define what the next generation of mobility needs to look and feel like.”

Faraday has also announced plans to invest US$1bn in the creation of a 279,000m² “state-of-the-art, environmentally conscious manufacturing facility” in Las Vegas, saying that it already has plans to work with established OEMs, but will position itself as a technology company rather than a traditional auto maker.
