The company has released pictures of the DeltaWing GT concept car and revealed some of the technical details behind the project.
Designed to use a transverse, rear-mounted powertrain, DeltaWing says that the platform can be adapted to take any transverse engine and that the concept behind the car would enable significant economy and emissions savings over more normal cars.
The roadgoing concept takes on the triangular footprint that the company’s race car is known for, expanding it to become a four-seater. DeltaWing says that the car weighing around 820kg would achieve 57mpg on the US EPA cycle if it was fitted with a 140PS, 1.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. It also says that the low drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd means it would maximize the range potential of an EV powertrain.
DeltaWing is set to build the car itself, and it will be badged as a Panoz, though the firm is still open to partnering with a car manufacturer. Don Panoz said, “I’m certainly no tree-hugger and have no opinion on global warming, but if you have better fuel economy and lower emissions, then that makes a contribution to society.”
